Munich-Liverpool Coach Candidate

Alonso Expected to Remain in Leverkusen

Coach Xavi Alonso Bayer Leverkusen, who is mentioned as a candidate for the replacement of Bayern Munich and Liverpool, is expected to remain.

"Alonso is expected to remain in Leverkusen after this season. Currently, Munich and Liverpool want different coaches," British media outlet David Onstein said on Monday .

Alonso is a defensive midfielder who played for top teams such as Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Munich during his active career. After retiring from active duty in 2017, he became a leader, starting with the Real Youth Team and leading the Real Sociedad B Team in 2019.

Since then, he took the helm of Leverkusen in 2022, recording records such as sixth place in the Bundesliga in the first season and advancing to the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League.

He is displaying more stable leadership this season. Under the three-back system, he is leading the league by banking on his attack using both wingbacks and two attacking midfielders, beating Munich, which won the Bundesliga title for 11 consecutive seasons.

If Alonso wins the championship, he can break Munich's continued dominance and become a new emerging powerhouse.

Currently, Alonso is drawing attention from other teams. Big clubs are keeping an eye on the situation to take him back after showing good leadership for two consecutive years.

Munich and Liverpool, whose coaches will be vacant after this season, wanted it. The two teams are also Alonso's former team. Munich has to find a replacement for Thomas Tuchel and Liverpool for Jurgen Klopp after this summer.

However, the possibility that Alonso will stay is increasing, and the two teams are reportedly in contact with other coaches.

"Munich is unlikely to appoint Alonso this summer," Onstein said. Uli Hönes is interested in appointing Alonso, but believes he will remain with Leverkusen. Hönes said that Alonso is highly willing to remain with Leverkusen as the team is currently enjoying a successful season.

Alonso has also consistently refuted rumors over his move. When news broke out about the move to Liverpool earlier this year, Alonso said, "I have respect for what Liverpool and Klopp have achieved. But now I am focusing on Leverkusen. I have a lot of motivation. I am living a very happy life. My future is ahead of games, not May."

With Alonso likely to remain, Munich and Liverpool are expected to focus on appointing other coaches. 안전놀이터
