Women's badminton Ahn Se-young beats China's natural enemy and challenges Korea's first history

South Korean badminton star Ahn Se-young (21, Samsung Life Insurance) has a chance to challenge for the top of the world championship for the first time in her life. He advanced to the final for the first time in 30 years since legend Bang Soo-hyun.

Ahn Se-young defeated Chen Yue-fei of China with a set score of 2-0 (21-19 21-15) in the semifinals of the women's singles at the 2023 World Badminton Federation (BWF) World Individual Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark on the 26th. No. 3 Chun Yu-fei was no match for Ahn Se-young, the world No. 1 in women's singles.

It is the first time for a Korean player to make it to the women's singles final at the tournament in 30 years. In 1993, Bang Soo-hyun reached the final of the tournament and finished second.

If Ahn Se-young reaches the top, it will be the first Korean player in history. Since the establishment of the competition in 1977, Bang Soo-hyun's best performance in women's singles has been the runner-up.

Karolina Marin (Spain), the world's sixth-ranked opponent, was chosen as the final opponent. Marin, who is also known for shouting during the game, won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and beat second-place Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) in the semifinals of the tournament. Ahn Se-young won the Indonesian Masters final earlier this year, beating Marin 2-1.

Now the natural enemy relationship seems to have broken down. Ahn Se-young had one win and eight losses against Chun Yu-fei until last year, but this year, she was ahead of Chun Yu-fei with four wins and two losses before the world championship. The recent momentum continued on this day as well.

Ahn Se-young won the first set after a neck-and-neck race. He allowed a tie by allowing five runs in a row after a 16-11 lead, but won a strong attack at 20-19 after a tight match to take the lead.

Taking the momentum, Ahn Se-young scored seven consecutive points in the second set of 14-15, winning a ticket to the finals. He shook Chun Yu-fei with his unique tremendous defense, and his smash, which was recently strengthened by intensive training on offense, stood out.

In the mixed doubles, Seo Seung-jae (Samsung Life) and Chae Yoo-jung (Incheon International Airport) beat world No. 2 Yuta Watanabe and Higashino Arisa (Japan) 2-0 (21-15 21-13) in the semifinals. The world's fifth-ranked Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung advanced to the finals for the first time in 20 years since Kim Dong-moon and Ra Kyung-min, who won the tournament in 2003.

In the men's doubles, Seo Seung-jae also beat Aaron Chia-Souyuk 2-0 (23-21 21-13) in the semifinals with teammate Kang Min-hyuk. It is the first time in nine years that South Korean players have advanced to the finals since 2014, when Ko Sung-hyun (Gimcheon City Hall) and Shin Baek-cheol (Incheon International Airport) and Yoo Yeon-seong-Lee Yong-dae (Yonex) won gold and silver medals. 토토

The final will be held in the order of mixed doubles, women's doubles, women's singles, men's singles, and men's doubles from 7 p.m. on the 27th in Korean time.
